without a filter...

some things just shouldn't be made into cute, approachable characters. i've seen some wierd ones in japan: cartoon hamster faces made into little cold cuts, marimokkori, the mascot of hokkaido with an overactive, um, algae ball, and the ubiquitous poo stickers...but recently megan brought a new character to my attention, tobacco-san. now you can get a whole notebook full of smiling cigarettes promising "adult taste" and suggesting you "light me." you can even cut out the paper into a cigarette pack envelope and roll up your cigarette memo! yikes, guys!

  1. This would work for me (if I still smoked- this month, I've been quit for 25 yrs!) because I always need a note paper while in the car; i love it, dual purpose! Remember candy cigarettes. I guess the thought here was, if we hook the children into thinking they are "fun", they'll smoke when older.sad auntie norma

  2. i guess i had completely forgotten you used to smoke. mom mentioned it once a long time ago. there seems to be a lot of the "hook 'em while they're kids" going on here: loud arcades that resemble pachinko parlors, regular manga next to pornographic manga, cigarette notepaper...
